Many of our guests arrive feeling nervous, unsure what to expect or wondering whether a retreat is really for them. This page answers the most common questions we receive about our UK wellness retreats, including what happens during a retreat, whether you can come alone, and how retreats can support wellbeing, stress recovery and emotional reset.

Thinking About Joining a Retreat?

Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, emotionally exhausted or simply craving time to reconnect with yourself, it's natural to have questions or even feel unsure about booking - but a retreat can be one of the most amazing, life-changing things you’ll ever do! It’s very important you find the right retreat for you though - from the practical itinerary of the retreat and what it includes, to the atmosphere and culture that the retreats hosts create.

Our retreat hosts Ali and James have years of experience not only in their own areas of expertise in yoga, mindfulness, meditation, sound baths, reiki and fitness, they also have had years of experience attending retreats around the world for UK press. They know how it feels to attend a retreat, the huge benefits they deliver, and also what makes a retreat great. They poured all of this knowledge and passion into We Are Remedy, retreats designed to take truly holistic approach to wellbeing in body and mind, creating a welcoming and friendly atmosphere for guests, designed to reset and rebalance and redirect you towards your goals, from health, to career, whatever they may be.

What is a wellness retreat?

A wellness retreat is dedicated time away from everyday life to focus on your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

At We Are Remedy Retreats, our wellbeing retreats combine fitness, yoga, mindfulness, cold water therapy, nourishing food, reiki, sound bath, meditation, mindset coaching, relaxation and meaningful connection in beautiful countryside settings. The aim is not perfection or transformation overnight, but creating space to reset, recharge and reconnect with yourself.

What if I'm feeling overwhelmed but not burnt out?

You don't need to reach breaking point before prioritising yourself. So many of us don’t allow ourselves, or know how to rest and recover - our society often champions the results of stress and burnout.

Many guests join us simply because they feel stretched too thin, disconnected from themselves or in need of a break from constant demands. A wellness retreat can provide space to pause, reflect and recharge before stress becomes more significant.

Who are our retreats for?

Our retreats are designed for anyone who may be:

  • Looking for a health reset

  • Feeling overwhelmed by work, family or everyday responsibilities

  • Emotionally exhausted or struggling to switch off

  • Experiencing stress or burnout

  • Navigating life transitions or periods of change in work, health or relationships

  • Seeking connection with like-minded people

  • Wanting to prioritise their wellbeing

You do not need to be fit, experienced in yoga or knowledgeable about wellness practices to attend.

Can I come on my own?

Absolutely!

The majority of our guests attend solo and often arrive with the same concerns. It’s normal to feel nervous about attending alone, but often it can deliver the greatest benefits! One of the things people consistently tell us afterwards is how welcomed and comfortable they felt - we are becoming rather famous for it!

You'll have opportunities to connect with others naturally, while also having plenty of space and time to yourself if that's what you need.

What happens during a typical retreat?

Activities include:

  • Inspiring, fun, group fitness sessions

  • Energising Yoga

  • Guided meditation & mindfulness practices

  • Mindset coaching and goal setting workshops

  • Cold water therapy and hot tub

  • A group countryside hike with an opportunity to take a wild dip

  • Nutritious and delicious chef-prepared meals

  • Reiki and Soundbaths

  • Time to relax and unwind

  • Opportunities for connection and conversation

Everything is designed to support wellbeing, confidence and recovery from the demands of modern life.

Do I need to be fit or have done yoga before?

Not at all!

Our retreats welcome people of different ages, fitness levels and experience. Activities can be adapted where needed, and participation is always encouraged rather than pressured.

Many guests are complete beginners at yoga. Our yoga sessions are designed to be accessible, supportive and focused on helping you feel good rather than achieving perfect poses.

How do I know if I need a wellness retreat?

You may benefit from a retreat if:

  • You feel constantly busy or overwhelmed

  • You want to improve your lifestyle or health

  • You are facing a big life transition, a milestone birthday, or career change

  • You're struggling to switch off

  • You're emotionally exhausted

  • You feel disconnected from yourself

  • You haven't prioritised your own wellbeing for a long time

  • You're craving time to reset and recharge

  • Your routine has become unbalanced

  • You want to make new, likeminded friends

  • You want to increase your confidence

  • You feel as if you have lost direction and need a change or reset

Sometimes the biggest sign is simply feeling lost, or ready for a break. Many guests attend during periods of change such as career shifts, relationship changes, empty nest transitions or times when they simply feel stuck.

What are the benefits of a wellness retreat?

Guests often report:

  • A sense of new direction, new goals and lifestyle routine

  • A feeling that their life has changed

  • Feeling calmer and more relaxed

  • Improved mental clarity

  • Reduced feelings of stress and overwhelm

  • Increased confidence and motivation

  • Better connection with and understanding of themselves

  • New friends with similar mindsets

  • Renewed energy, perspective and outlook on life

Many people describe the experience as pressing pause on the demands of everyday life and having the time to invest into themselves.

What is cold water therapy?

Cold water therapy involves short, supervised exposure to cold water. We have two cold plunge tubs and usually team up and plunge in pairs to create a sense of camaraderie and fun!

Many people find it energising and empowering - guests often describe feeling more present, resilient and refreshed afterwards - and more often than not a huge sense of pride and confidence in challenging themselves! Participation is always optional.

Is everything compulsory?

Not at all.

As you arrive you’ll settle into your room and relax a little. meet other guests and when everyone arrives we cheers to the weekend with a wellness shot, before heading into dinner. This is a great way to get to know everyone in a really organic way. Then there’s a bit of free time before you settle down for your first gentle stretch and sound bath meditation to set yourself up for a great night’s sleep.

On a retreat day we meet for fruit, lemon water and coffee before beginning our meditation, yoga and workout session around 8am. Then it’s cold plunge time and a nice warm hot tub to jump into afterwards, as well as the pool if you fancy a few laps. Then a delicious brunch which feels like a real celebration after the morning’s events! You’ll then have a mindset coaching/breath work workshop to head into beforebit of free time and lunch. The afternoons involve countryside hike, yoga or wellness workshop and free time, depending on the day. Then dinner, and a beautiful sound bath meditation before bed. Woven into our days are reiki, wellness tools, new wellbeing trends to try out, introspective journalling , stimulating conversation and time in nature.

Can a wellness retreat help with burnout?

Many guests attend our retreats because they feel physically and emotionally exhausted.

While a retreat is not a medical treatment, stepping away from daily pressures and creating space for rest, movement, reflection and connection can help many people feel calmer, clearer and more energised.

Guests frequently tell us they leave feeling more balanced, less overwhelmed and better equipped to manage stress.
